CAN WE SEW THE MUSIC?

My Mother was a dress’ maker, when I was a child I used to see her sitting half a day, from late morning to a couple hour before dusk, facing her vintage sewing machine, stitching fabrics into dress, embroidering flowers and bees as an apron decoration. Her hands and feet were very busy, controlling pedal and needle. Her mind was even busier, imagining our ASHD (Attention Surplus Hyperactivity Disorder). Whenever she left her machine, that had word ‘SINGER’ in it, I was thinking, why this Singer thing did not produce music, or a song at least?

Then, just yesterday, I’ve found the thing that had been crossing my mind ages ago, sewing machine that produce music. It sat at the corner of Edwin’s Gallery in Plaza Indonesia Jakarta. Created by artist Bagus Pandega, this artwork titled ‘SINGER;PAST-POST’, dimension: 75cmx90cmx40cm. It has Turntable, Singer, LED, Audio System, and LP, painted in black. We could hear the music from LP as we pushed its pedal, our position would look like a DJ. The music speed depends on how hard we push the pedal. Hmm, what is in my mind, now? Miami Sound Machine…, rhythm is gonna get you…
