A LACY DAVID
What will you feel when a respectful statue, suddenly covered with a pinky lace? Let's say it is your national symbol, or it is statue of a respectful institutional founding father. You'll feel blue, I guess. This was what happen to me when I saw a giant statue, a Michelangelo's David replica, right in the atrium center of Grand Indonesia, Jakarta. Its height is double then original statue (now 11 meters), created by Tita Rubi from Yogayakarta, central Java. The reason she creates this lacy David is base on her consideration that people has been always put woman as an object of desire. Now it's her time to say something vise versa, put man as an object. This issue is quite out of fashion, as we now that nowaday every creature on this earth has fell into an object of everything. But if we take a look at this David, I think Tita doesn't put it as an object like when people put woman as object of desire, she tents to degrade its masculinity into a certain femininity level. But..., okay it's her right to say anything visually. Once Salvador Dali did the same thing anyway, put a mustache on Monalisa's face.
