Yesterday, my neighbor, and old man, saw me stood in front of my house. He urged to wave his hand and expect me come toward him. ‘Do you have any knowledge about painting?’ asked him as I enter his veranda. I’m 800% sure he doesn’t have any idea that I run a blog like this. ‘I want to sell this painting’, said he. He seems rather exhausted, unloading things out of his storeroom by himself. He pointed a 50x90cm dusty canvas with a pocket camera in his right hand, I saw a topless woman reclining sensually in it. The situation gone awkward between me and him, because habitually I only meet this man in the mosque for praying and walk back home together with a shared topic like ‘how are you & praying’ kind of thing. ‘My father gave this to me when I was 20, hmm… maybe… around 1950’s… I guess’. ‘Can I borrow your camera?’ I said. Then I took out its memory card after I snapped the topless woman, transferred it to my laptop, and here it is. This woman skin tone is quite good, her hair look 80’s than 50’s, her smile looks stiff, her half down part anatomy is imperfect, the brush stroke looks rough, and poor lighting technic. I could not say anything to this old man, I left him and walk away. He said he has several more in the storeroom, while in my mind I remembered the Naked of Maja by Goya or Olympia by Edouard Manet.
The Naked Maja, Francisco de Goya (1797-1800)
Olympia, Edouard Manet (1863)
